Coming up with social media content ideas is a never-ending chore. Even the pros struggle at times to create fresh social media posts for all their Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.
You would think that, because there’s really an unlimited number of social media content ideas for businesses, it would be easier, right?
Not so! All those ideas tend to overwhelm people. So, let’s keep this simple, shall we?
I’m going to show you the 5 types of social media content you need to pay attention to most.
Why? Because these:
#1 Conversation Starters
What’s the first thing you do when you enter a room with a group of people? You start having conversations. You engage with others, talk about them, talk about what’s happening lately, talk about you.
Our society is built on conversations and social media is no different. If you want to get to know your followers – and be able to provide them with what they are looking for – starting conversations is a must.
How do you do this? A couple of quick ways are to:
- Ask questions
- Post something controversial
- Post something encouraging
- Offer a freebie to people who comment on the post
#2 Community Builders
Once you get people engage, you’ll want to keep them active in your community and have them share you with their online friends.
In order to do that, you have to give them something to share. Quotes are great! Things you’ve said… things other people have said, it really doesn’t matter.
Singer TobyMac does an awesome job of this. Check him out on Facebook to see all the quotes he posts that then get shared on tons of other profiles and pages.
#3 Credibility Boosters
Where have you been? What have you done? Why should your followers lend any credit to what you say? Posting proof showcases your expertise and gives you a solid sense of authority.
What can you post to build credibility? Here are 3 ideas that work well:
- Quick tips
- Short snippets of useful information
- Lists of things people can do to get better at ______
#4 Connection Maker
Let your peeps know they can look to you for the good stuff! When they want to find out something about your niche, you want to be the first person they think about. You can accomplish this by sharing:
Once you’ve walked your new or existing followers through all these phases, then they’ll be ready to trust you with their emails and credit cards.
Now it’s time to post:
Do you have to use these 5 types of content in order?
Your followers will resonate with the phase they are in. Plus, you can’t control your followers… they won’t all click LIKE at the same time, so posting some of all 5 types of content regularly is what makes the most sense.
But even knowing what types of content you need to create viral posts, you’ll still have to create them and that takes time.
Investing in social media templates that are easy to customize is a great way to go. Design templates stand out far more than text-only posts and are more likely to get shared (thus the viral part).
You can find templates by searching online, but this set from Katya Varbanova is one that I own and recommend.
